On June 7, the Grand Forks County Commission signed two more documents necessary for Grand Sky to gain the all clear for full tenant operations. In an article written by the Grand Forks Herald, Tom Swoyer, president of Grand Sky Development Co., said, “It’s really rewarding that we can now actually move on to getting the planes in the air and not just the procedural paperwork to allow it. Now we can go do it. And I think that’s important. It’s a huge step for Grand Sky.”
After the document signing, it didn’t take long for yet another milestone to be met. On June 8, ISight RPV Services was the first to launch a fixed-wing unmanned aircraft at Grand Sky. The Altavian f6500 flight went off without a hitch and was the first of many future fixed-wing flights at Grand Sky, of all sizes. This summer, tenant General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. will begin training flight crews for its large UAS and anchor tenant Northrop Grumman is on track to begin operations later this year.
