BVLOS is the buzzword in the UAS industry, and for good reason. Without the ability to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), the UAS industry isn’t able to operate to its true potential.
In the U.S., Grand Sky is the only site where commercial large UAS operators have the opportunity to put their beyond-line-of-sight capabilities to the test. As noted recently by Aviation Week, the start of BVLOS operations at Grand Sky in mid-August will mark yet another milestone for the UAS park and also cement North Dakota’s role as a pioneer in advancing the industry.

Grand Sky tenant General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. will be the first to conduct BVLOS flights at the park. As data is collected and the safety of these flights is proven, other operators will also have the chance to participate. Initial flights will take place within 60 nautical miles of Grand Sky, but it is anticipated that the flight area will soon be expanded to include most of North Dakota.
