General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc.
The General Atomics Training Academy at Grand Sky provides state-of-the-art flight instruction to aircrews operating GA-ASI aircraft. In addition to providing increased capacity to train the company’s own aircrews, the Training Academy also trains FMS customers who are seeking to grow their aircrew numbers to meet current operational demand. Operating year-round, GA-ASI’s RPA Training Academy offers multiple courses per year using U.S. government-approved curricula, with the potential of training up to 60 flight crews per year. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GAASI), is a leading manufacturer of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) systems, radars, and electro-optic and related mission systems solutions.

Grand Forks Air Force Base
Grand Forks Air Force Base is home to the U.S. Air Force’s 319th Air Base Wing. The base’s mission has been UAS-focused since 2011 and includes the operation of the RQ-4 Global Hawk, making it one of the nation’s most important sites for the development of UAS technologies.
Grand Sky has a unique collaborative relationship with the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Through a Joint Use Agreement with the U.S. Air Force and Grand Forks County, Grand Sky tenants have direct access to the 12,351-foot runway at Grand Forks Air Force Base. The Joint Use Agreement allows manned, unmanned and optionally manned commercial aircraft to utilize the runway, which allows for real-world situational testing.

Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department
The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department takes an active role at Grand Sky by posting a deputy at the entrance gate to verify and secure access to the site. The sheriff’s department is also in charge of maintaining public safety and enforcing county and state laws on the property.

Harris Corporation provides advanced solutions to support beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flight operations – reducing the need for chase planes to provide constant visual surveillance during flight.
Harris provides a customized RangeVue sense and avoid solution that delivers real-time situational awareness of surrounding unmanned and manned aircraft traffic, with reliable multi-sensor surveillance for cooperative and non-cooperative vehicles. The solution covers the 217-acre unmanned aircraft business and aviation park. It enhances Grand Sky’s infrastructure for safe and efficient BVLOS UAS operations and testing, ensuring the FAA’s stringent safety requirements are met and eliminating the need for expensive chase planes to track UAS entering, exiting or operating within Grand Sky’s 60 nautical-mile radius airspace.
Harris’ Grand Sky solution combines available surveillance sources – including Grand Forks AFB’s radar feed, locally installed ADS-B Xtend and FAA NextGen surveillance data – into a single stream that offers superior area coverage and airspace visualization for drone operators. Xtend supplements the FAA’s existing ADS-B nationwide network operated by Harris, which provides precise and reliable satellite-based surveillance for the nation’s air traffic control system.

Northern Plains UAS Test Site
The Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NPUASTS), based in Grand Forks, N.D., is one of only seven U.S. Federal Aviation Administration UAS test sites in the nation. Grand Sky collaborates closely with NPUASTS to provide tenants with expert technical assistance and COA support for UAS operations. In December 2016, the FAA granted authorization to the NPUASTS for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights, with Grand Sky serving as the launch and recovery site for BVLOS flights.
